‘Wena Customs is a bunch of friends, who are not afraid to dream and consequently make dreams come true.’

That’s a hell of an introduction but tells you everything you need to know.
You may know them for their award winning bike ‘Twister’ based on a CX500. What you see here is their latest commission, there follow up.

This low slung, stretched out, sleek missile started its life as a BMW R80ST which at some point in its life had received some café racer love.

Sven, The bikes owner, had seen the award winning Twister and thought it would be a good idea to drop in on Wena customs. He was soon amongst friends and received the very best of attention.
The team at Wena took time to carefully understand what makes Sven tick, and the result was this.

They focused on a sleek, low stance with a smooth, understated look.
To make this happen, the oversized standard tank had to go. Its replacement came in the form of a small but perfectly formed Yamaha RD50 tank.

Next on the list was the seat unit and subframe. To flatter the lines of the narrow, stretched out RD50 tank, a new, fully upholstered seat unit was designed and the diagonal subframe supports removed. A stronger subframe was fabricated and the end result looks like the seat unit is unsupported, floating.
After the large cosmetic changes were done and the true attitude of the build had been realised, Wena  started with some of the detailed changes that really separate the men from the boys in this kind of build.

The large, ugly, plastic airbox had to go as a matter of urgency and a seductive, aluminium replacement was sourced.
Stance was high on the list of priorities so the front forks were shortened and mounted in a custom made top yoke while the rear is suspended on an adjustable rear shock. The bike sits low, straight and purposeful. The forks also received special attention, having the reflector mouldings machined back, further enhancing the clean, minimalist look.

The frame has been cleaned with unnecessary items such as the centre stand removed and the entire frame has been smoothed and powder coated.
Power comes from the strong 797cc, 4 valve, flat twin boxer engine which has been disassembled, cleaned, powder coated and reassembled in better than new condition.

With such a dramatic and striking look, it’s easy to overlook the details and there are lots.

Check out the motogadged bar end indicators and beautiful rizoma levers and mirrors. Look at that elegant Custom Chrome exhaust. Take a moment to drink in the brushed aluminium speedo basket machined from an aluminium billet.


Just about every nut, bolt and component has been replaced along the way; new brake lines, new clutch link, new grips, switches, master cylinder and many many more details.
The tank has been expertly painted to replicate the patina of an old tank and there’s even a tribute to its Yamaha origins with a subtle, patina’d speed block design.

Wena have created something very special for Sven, he’s a very lucky guy. He rolled in with a perfectly acceptable R80ST Café racer and rolled out with this exquisite, seductive realization.
